Amer Fort, Jaipur

Amer Fort, JaipurLocated in Amber, the former capital city of the Kachhwaha Rajputs, Amer Fort is an amazing architectural jewel in the crown of Rajasthan. It is situated 11 km from the pink city Jaipur on the Delhi-Jaipur road.  Raja Man Singh I, army commander of Mughal Emperor Akbar initiated its construction in the year 1592 but it was completed by Mirza Raja Jai Singh and Sawai Jai Singh. Rajputs were highly influenced by Mughal architecture and hence combined this architectural style with their traditional Rajput architecture and the outcome was imposing pieces of architecture. Amer Fort is one of the perfect examples of this style.

Carved in red sand stone and white marble, the fort has several royal apartments inside its boundary. It has towering gateways, huge halls, and fortified staircases, meticulously carved pillars, stunning palaces and beautiful temples. Structures in the fort which you must not missed are the 'Diwan-E-Khas'(private hall), the 'Sheesh Mahal' and the 'Jai Mandir', the 'Diwan-E-Aam'(hall of Public audience), the 'Sukh Niwas'(hall of pleasure), the Shila Mata Temple and Kali temple and the 'Kesar Kyari'(lush green garden). The doors of the Kali Mata temple are made of pure silver. The doors of Sukh Niwas are carved in sandalwood inlaid with ivory.

The entrance to the fort is from a finely manicured garden named 'Dil-e-Aaram'. Its style depicts the Mughal architecture. The meticulously done mirror work, lattice work and carved marble statues inside the fort will grab your attention. Do pay a visit to the shimmering 'Jai Mandir' (hall of victory). Its ceiling is impressively decorated with mirror work. The moment the light falls on these mirror pieces the entire apartment glows like a diamond. If you are interested to see some fascinating paintings of Krishna Leela (pertaining to Lord Krishna) then head for Zenana Mahal (women's apartment).
