Havelis of Jaisalmer

Patva Haveli, JaisalmerHavelis Of Jaisalmer - An Epitome Of Opulence

The golden city of Jaisalmer is not only a landscape famous for its mesmerizing world of sand but also an interesting destination of Rajasthan when it comes to the opulent havelis. The havelis of Jaisalmer were once the private properties of the wealthy merchants of the city. These havelis still hold their pride and charm. Some of the havelis were constructed 300 years back and a visit to them is like taking a leap into the bygone era. The rich merchants were greatly inclined towards building palatial residences for themselves and hence spent lavishly on the havelis. Carved in sandstone, each built in a unique style, the havelis are bound to leave the visitors asking for more. Depicting the marriage between Hindu and Muslim architecture, the havelis are a window into the lifestyles of the affluent merchants. Camel safari is the best way to pay a visit to the havelis of Jaisalmer.

Some of the stunning havelis beckons you to explore them:

Patwaji Ki Haveli: The beauty of this five storied enchanting structure is often compared with the beauty of Taj Mahal. It was constructed in 1805 by a rich merchant Guman Chand Patwa. It is famous for its stone work, paintings and architectural style. It is the largest haveli in Rajasthan.

Salim Singh Ki Haveli: The peculiarity of this haveli lies in its 38 different balconies. Built in1815 by Salim Singh, the Haveli holds the attention of the tourists because of its exquisitely carved brackets in the shape of peacocks and arched roofs.

Nathmalji Ki Haveli: The lavish aura of this haveli can put the most stunning palace to shame. It has attractive pillars and bedecked walls. Its architecture is very different from the other havelis in Jaisalmer.
