Dilwara Temples, Mount Abu

Dilwara Temple, Mount-Abu, Sirohi, RajasthanDilwara Temples—The Epitome Of Perfection Manifested In White Marble

Marble has been put to its best use in the enchanting Dilwara temples in Mount Abu. Famous world wide for their arresting architectural style, the Jain Dilwara Temples are located only at a distance of 2 km from the famous hill station of Rajasthan—Mount Abu. The history of these magnificent structures date back from the 11th  to 13thcentury AD. Thousands of devotees of the Jain community pay a visit to these temples. The temple complex is encircled by a huge wall. Rajasthan is dotted with several other Jain temples but people say that the architectural beauty of the Jain Temples at Mount Abu is simply matchless. Be it ceiling or doorways, pillars and panels, oodles of attention has been paid to the minutest of detail when it comes to the architecture of Dilwara temples. If you wish to take a bath before performing Puja within the shrine, the temple provides such facility there. Outside the temple complex monkeys make a beeline waiting for some food.

Dilwara Temples have meticulously and intricately carved corridors, pillars, arches and mandaps or porticoes (a structure consisting of a roof supported by columns or piers, usually attached to a building as a porch). The ceilings are dedicated to designs of lotus, buds, flowers and Jain and Hindu mythological scenes. The huge decorative pendant hanging from the central dome looks amazing.
