Saheliyon Ki Bari, Udaipur

Saheliyon Ki Bari, UdaipurSomeone has rightly said “Greatest gift of the garden is the restoration of the five senses”. Same is the spirit of the garden nicknamed as Saheliyon Ki Bari or the Garden Of The Maids. The peaceful and beautiful garden was the healthy creation of Maharana Sangram Singh II. It is located on the bank of the beautiful Fateh Sagar Lake. It is a very romantic lake with the Aravalis as its backdrop. It was built in the year 1734 especially for the Royal Lady and her maids. These maids were forty eight in number who accompanied the Queen when she was married to the King. After the long hectic day they would come here to unwind. They would converse and soak in the peace.

Saheliyon Ki Bari has four impressive pools which are dotted with fountains. Do not miss the five fountains dedicated to unique concept of artificial rain. Each of the five fountains has a title: Welcome, Raining Cats and Dogs, Rains in Midnight, Rains without Clouds, and Gentle Shower. All the five fountains are in sync with the titles conferred on them. The lawns of the garden will fetch you a wonderful sight of blooming Bougainvillea. Some of the fountains are in the shape of lions and elephants heightening the ornamental quotient of the garden. The garden also houses a museum where the stuffed cobras are resting in peace.
